Can business set goals other than profit?
During his speech at the opening ceremony of the new factory in Pozzuoli, Naples, on 23 April 1955, Adriano Olivetti issued the following challenge:
“Può l'industria darsi dei fini? Si trovano questi semplicemente nell'indice dei profitti?” (Can business set goals other than profit?)
This provocation is still echoing today within the numerous economic models that have been proliferating since the end of the last century to the beginning of this new one.
The birth of these models, based on a common platform of values, principles and aspirations, reflects the radical changes in relationships, behaviour and interaction in organizations, consumers and stakeholders.
